1) Self-Discipline and Self-Determination – There are several key skills and personal characteristics that an entrepreneur needs, but they can all be summed up as a self-starter who has a tendency for taking action; someone who is an “actor” in the game of life, not only someone who watches from the sidelines.
2) Leadership and Inspiration – An entrepreneur will have to “sell” his/her ideas to a large community of people, probably starting with a banker or other investment partner, and continuing through a recurrent stream of contacts with both suppliers and customers. Personal integrity and character are paramount.
3) An Upbeat Viewpoint Rather than a Gloomy Mindset – An entrepreneur must be able to perceive the positives in any event and to think about a positive outcome, regardless of the problems or brick walls one might currently be encountering.
4) A Good Imagination and Ability to Build or Invent – An entrepreneur must also be able to leave the boundaries of contemporary thinking and restraining assumptions, and to think creatively, including the ability to perceive opportunities where others see only constraints and obstacles.
5) Willingness to Take Justifiable Risks – Risks are present in any enterprise, and the entrepreneur must be able to instantly and properly evaluate the risks inherent in his/her proposed opportunity, and then must have the courage and determination to act when the occasion is right.
In effect, an entrepreneur sees a problem that is currently unmet – or insufficiently met – and develops a solution satisfying the demands of a specific market niche.
Anyone that can creatively solve problems in the surroundings, sustain self-control and self-discipline, along with an optimistic attitude and also the desire and motivation to succeed will do just that – succeed.
