As most internet marketers know, SEO is a process learnt over many years. It is a process of learning from your mistakes, but one that stand them in good stead eventually. Unfortunately for many aspiring internet marketers nowadays, there is a whole host of misinformation flowing across the internet at the moment. A lot of this stuff is content that has been doing the rounds for many years. It is content that has been rewritten by individuals pretending to know what they are on about, but in reality they do not have a clue. A couple of these myths are listed below.
The myth that states that page rank is the biggest factor in determining website rankings, is the first one. This is just not a true statement at all. Perform a search on Google, for example, for any keyword of your choice, and you will find that in most of the results PR 0 or PR 1 sites outrank PR 4 and PR 5 sites, as well as PR 7 sites ranking below PR 1 sites. As Google uses many, many factors when it comes to ranking a site, it ensures that no particular one is too dominant.
The second myth is the one that states that all low competition keywords are just easy to rank for in the search engine results. Yet again, this is a false statement. While a good general rule of thumb is to work with the so-called “low hanging fruit”, many webmasters make the mistake of looking for keyword phrases having less than XYZ competition and then just working with these.
If the truth be told, searching out these low competition keywords should only be the start of the research you should perform. You can have keywords with less than3000 competition being very hard to rank for, while some with over 10,000 could be easy. There are other considerations to take on board as well. Things like the strength of competing pages, how well optimised they are, backlinks to the pages, etc.
